TRINITY ASSEMBLY OF GOD CHURCH HISTORY

Trinity Assembly of God (TAG) began in July 1986 when ThomasJ. Hertweck, his wife Eunhee, and their children, Lisa (9), David (7) andJoshua (2½-months), returned to New York State after graduating from CentralBible College and the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Springfield,MO.

TAG’s first service was held on Sunday, August 24, 1986 atthe NY District A/G offices located at 8130 Oswego Rd., Liverpool. Twenty-fivepeople attended that service and TAG was “birthed!”

On October 5, 1986 TAG held it’s official Opening Rally andPastoral Installation service, conducted by Rev. Almon Bartholomew,Superintendent and Rev. Leon Miles, Assistant Superintendant. Among theattendees was a special, honored guest, Marvin John Hertweck, Pastor TomHertweck’s father.

On February 4, 1987 TAG received its Certificate ofAffiliation from the Assemblies of God in Springfield, MO.

On July 20, 1987, needing more space for the growingcongregation, TAG began meeting at the Wetzel Rd. Elementary School, 4246 WetzelRd., Liverpool.

On September 14, 1988 TAG became a General CouncilAffiliated (Sovereign) church.

On October 4, 1988 TAG received its Certificate ofIncorporation. At this time, there were 75 regular attendees.

During the summer of 1989 TAG moved their services back to alarger, renovated District Office facility; their average attendance was ninetypeople. Due to some faithful workers, TAG was able to develop many and variousministries for the church and community.

In 1990-91 TAG continued to experience continued growth andblessings.  TAG purchased six acresof land on State Route 31 in Clay. The site was chosen as the spot for theirfuture church buildings, and purchased at the remarkable price of $55,000.

In 1991 TAG also began a TV ministry called “Words To LiveBy,” an one-hour weekly program airing throughout CNY, which continues today.

On January 1, 1995 there was a powerful visitation of theHoly Spirit during the Sunday services, which continues to affect TAG to thisvery day!!! J  It was a “suddenly”that launched TAG into the fresh “River of God.” Many were powerfully impacted, delivered, healed, filled with the HolySpirit, saved, and entered into a freshand vibrant intimacy with the Lord.

In April 1997 TAG moved into it’s brand new 9,118 squarefoot church building at 4398 State Route 31, Clay, New York. TAG’s faithfulChurch Council/Deacons at that time were: John Bowers, Kevin DeMarco, LyndaJordan and Luis Gonzalez. Much of the labor was done by volunteers within thecongregation, saving TAG thousands of dollars in building costs. Thecongregation was 110 people at that time.

In 1999 TAG was able to hire additional Church Staff. ElaineBell was hired as the Church Secretary and Barbara Gonzalez as the FinancialSecretary. Eunhee Hertweck served as Co-Pastor and Office Administrator. In May1999 David M.Hertweck became the Senior Associate Pastor, with a portfolio ofYouth and Worship.

In 1999 TAG also began the Lamb & Lion Ministries andbegan to send Missions teams to various countries, Mexico, Belize, Ecuador,Spain, Dominican Republic, Northern Ireland, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, andCuba. In 2004 TAG was able to build and support a new Church work in Pesqueria,Cuba. In 2007 Rick and Debbie Walburger, along with their son Zach, TAGerssince April 1998, began a new church planting called the River of LifeFellowship in Scipio Center, NY.

In 2002 TAG began an in-house Bible School, connected withthe AG’s Global University. To date, 15 students have completed credentialingrequirements to become licensed to preach under the AG.

In August 2005 TAG dedicated it’s new building, a 60’x128”(7680 square foot) all-purpose building used for fellowship dinners with it’sfull kitchen, recreation, and a room for the Young Adults and Teens. Again,TAGers did most of the labor and they were able to move in debt-free. The valueof the building is $775,000, but TAG was able to build it using volunteer laborfor $330,000 cash. Currently, TAG buildings and land are now valued at twomillion dollars. Glory to GOD and thanks to all TAGers for their sacrifice!

In January 2007 TAG was able to purchase another 16.69 acresof land, immediately east of our present six acres for future expansion. TAGnow ministers to over300 people on a weekly basis.

On October 6, 2006 our Senior Associate Pastor, David M.Hertweck, was married to Erin Elizabeth Schwock, adding a great PLUS to theHertweck family. On May 19, 2008 David and Erin Hertweck gave birth to theirfirst-born, Lilia Grace Hertweck.

In 1998, “founding minister” Lisa Hertweck married DerekHenderson and they have helped “grow” TAG by blessing Pastor Tom and Eunheewith four grandchildren, Emma (9), Jared (7), Abigail (3) and Carter, born6-weeks early on May 18, 2008.

TAG’s original "2½-month-old minister,” Joshua, is now21 and a Junior in Elementary Education at SUNY Oswego.
